Meherpur, April 21, 2025
An awareness rally was held in Meherpur on the occasion of Renewable Energy Fest 2025, promoting the importance of sustainable and clean energy for the future.
The rally began at 10:00 AM from the premises of the Meherpur Deputy Commissioner’s Office and paraded through the city’s main streets before concluding at the District Shilpakala Academy.
The event was organized by Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha, Meherpur, in collaboration with ActionAid Bangladesh, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), and the Just Energy Transition Network Bangladesh (JETNet-BD).
Among those present were Rafiqul Alam, former General Secretary of Meherpur Press Club and President of CAB Meherpur; Majedul Haque Manik, General Secretary of CAB and RTV District Correspondent; Abu Abid, Executive Director of Society for the Promotion of Human Rights (SPHR); Golam Kibria, Executive Director of Palli Jan Unnayan Sangstha; Monirul Islam, District Representative of BRAC; Dilara Jahan, Executive Director of Health Foundation; and Rehena Khatun, Executive Director of Opejita Meherpur.
Over a hundred participants—including citizens, women and youth leaders, environmental activists, and representatives of civil society—joined the rally carrying placards and banners bearing slogans such as:
“Solar and Wind Energy is the Future,”
“Women and Youth Must Lead the Energy Transition,”
“Make Renewable Energy Fest 2025 a Success.”
A short gathering followed the rally in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, where speakers emphasized the technical potential of renewable energy, the need for policy reforms, and the importance of social justice in energy transition.
Mr. Moin-Ul-Alam, Executive Director of Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha, stated:
“Sustainable transformation of the energy sector is not the government’s responsibility alone—it requires active participation from every level of society. This rally marks the beginning of that collective effort.”
The event concluded with renewed enthusiasm among participants to promote renewable energy adoption, environmental awareness, and a just transition for a sustainable Bangladesh.
