With the theme “Clean Air, Healthy Life, and a Green Environment,” International Clean Air and Blue Sky Day 2026 was observed in Amjhupi, Meherpur.

To mark the occasion, a human chain was organized at 10:30 a.m. on Monday in front of the Amjhupi Union Parishad by Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha. The event was supported by the Just Energy Transition Network Bangladesh (JETNET-BD) and ActionAid Bangladesh, bringing together people from various professions and walks of life.
Among the speakers were Moin-ul-Alam, Executive Director of Subah Social Development Organization; Monirul Islam, District Coordinator of BRAC Meherpur; and Abu Abid, Executive Director of the Society for the Promotion of Human Rights (SPHCR).
The speakers emphasized that clean air is essential for maintaining good health and ensuring a better quality of life. They noted that air pollution contributes to respiratory illnesses, heart disease, lung complications, cancer, and many other serious health risks. They stressed that coordinated efforts by individuals, communities, and the government are necessary to reduce air pollution.
They also highlighted the importance of planting more trees while ensuring their proper care and conservation to maintain environmental balance. In addition, they urged people to stop burning waste and plastic in open spaces. The speakers called on everyone to take an active role in protecting the environment to ensure clean air and blue skies for future generations.
The human chain underscored the need to prevent air pollution, promote tree plantation, stop the burning of plastic and waste, and adopt environmentally friendly lifestyles.
