MEHERPUR — Under the slogan “Clean Air, Healthy Life, and Green Environment,” International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies 2026 was observed in Amjhupi, Meherpur.
A human chain was held on Monday at 10:30 AM in front of the Amjhupi Union Parishad premises, organized by the Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha . The event was held with support from Just Energy Transition Network Bangladesh (JETNet-BD) and ActionAid Bangladesh, drawing participants from various walks of life.
Key speakers at the rally included Moin-ul-Alam, Executive Director of Subah Social Development Organization; Monirul Islam, Meherpur District Coordinator of BRAC; and Abu Abid, Executive Director of Society for the Promotion of Human Rights (SPHCR).
Highlighting the critical link between air quality and public health, the speakers noted that air pollution triggers severe health risks, including respiratory illnesses, heart disease, lung complications, and cancer. They urged for combined individual, social, and governmental action to curb air pollution, proper maintenance of trees, an end to burning open waste and plastics, and the adoption of eco-friendly lifestyles.
