Meherpur, 15 June 2026: In celebration of World Environment Day 2026, Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha organized a large-scale environmental awareness campaign under the theme:
“Advancing a Just Energy Transition for a Protected Nature and a Livable Future.”
As part of the observance, volunteers removed harmful plastic waste and other litter from the bases of more than 500 roadside trees along the Meherpur–Chuadanga Highway. The initiative aimed to raise public awareness about environmental conservation and encourage citizens to refrain from dumping plastic and other waste around trees.
The organizers explained that plastic waste trapped around tree bases restricts water and air circulation, hinders healthy root development, and contributes to environmental pollution. By cleaning the affected areas, the campaign sought to improve the health of roadside trees while promoting responsible waste disposal practices.
The environmental awareness campaign brought together organizational leaders, teachers, social activists, and local political representatives. During the program, speakers emphasized that protecting the environment requires collective action and active participation from every section of society. They encouraged citizens to adopt environmentally friendly habits and work together to create cleaner and greener communities.
The campaign was supported by the JET NET-BD Campaign, Meherpur, which collaborated in implementing the tree-cleaning initiative.
Speakers concluded that regular environmental cleanup activities, combined with greater public awareness, are essential for protecting nature and ensuring a healthy, sustainable, and livable planet for future generations. They urged people from all walks of life to play an active role in preserving the environment and safeguarding natural resources.
