Rally and Discussion Meeting Held in Mujibnagar to Prevent Eve-Teasing, Meherpur News, December 29, 2010

Meherpur News, December 29, 2010: To raise public awareness against eve-teasing, a colorful rally and discussion meeting were organized yesterday, Wednesday, in Mujibnagar Upazila of Meherpur district by Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha and the Bangladesh National Women Lawyers’ Association.

 

 

The event was held under the slogan: “Girls will be safe on the streets, in marketplaces, and at workplaces.”

The discussion meeting took place at the hall room of Mujibnagar Secondary School, presided over by the school’s head teacher, Abdul Hai.


Mujibnagar Upazila Chairman Amirul Islam attended as the chief guest. Special guests included Officer-in-Charge of Mujibnagar Police Station S.M. Zafar AliInspector (Investigation) Sardar Babar AliAdvocate Manjuri Begum, and Advocate Khandaker Shams Tanim, members of the Bangladesh National Women Lawyers’ Association.

The meeting was conducted by journalist Rafiqul Alam, and the welcome speech was delivered by Moin-ul-Alam, Executive Director of Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha.

Among others, teacher Munshi Mokaddes Ali and student Rabeya Khatun spoke at the event.
Speakers emphasized that eve-teasing is a major social problem and called for a social movement to eradicate it from the roots.

The chief guest offered guidance and motivational advice to the students, while Advocate Manjuri Begum provided a legal explanation regarding eve-teasing.

Before the discussion meeting, a colorful rally led by Upazila Chairman Amirul Islam paraded through the Kedarganj market area.
