Meherpur News, May 31, 2015, To mark World No Tobacco Day 2015, the Meherpur District Administration and the Anti-Tobacco Alliance organized a series of events including a rally, human chain, and a discussion meeting.
The rally began on Sunday morning, led by Deputy Commissioner Mahmud Hossain, starting from the District Shilpakala Academy premises. It paraded through the main roads of the town and concluded at the DC Office premises.
Following the rally, a discussion session was held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner. Presided over by Deputy Commissioner Mahmud Hossain, the session featured speeches from Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohammad Azizur Rahman Siddiqui, Additional Superintendent of Police Ahmar Uzzaman, Mosharraf Hossain, Executive Director of Palashipara Samaj Kalyan Samiti, and Moinul Alam, Executive Director of Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha.
Earlier in the day, a human chain was also formed in front of the DC office premises under the joint initiative of WBB Trust, Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha, and the Anti-Tobacco Alliance. The slogan of the event was “Stop the Illegal Trade of Tobacco Products, Launch the Health Promotion Foundation Immediately.” Representatives from various NGOs actively participated in the program.
