Afforestation Programs
Since its establishment, Subah Social Development Organization has been implementing afforestation programs along the Meherpur-Chuadanga highway, along the river, and in various institutions. Since 2008, this program has been expanded widely with the financial support of Bangladesh NGO Foundation and Subah Samajik Unnayan Songstha own funding. The organization has made special contributions to tree plantation. The Bangladesh government has given the Prime Minister’s National Award for Tree Plantation in 2003-2012-2014 for its public awareness of environmental protection. Campaigns are being conducted in secondary schools to make students aware of environmental protection.

The global environment is now under threat, which is why the inhabitants of the world are worried. The world’s climate is changing, environmental pollution is occurring due to overpopulation, unlimited use of natural resources, deforestation, excessive vehicle traffic, industrialization which is causing global warming, greenhouse effect, and rising sea levels. As a result, various natural disasters like floods, droughts, cyclones, etc. are increasing at an alarming rate. There is an inequality in the change of seasons in the country. Due to continuous rainfall and not raining at the right time, crop production is being hampered.

25% of the total land area is required to maintain ecological balance, but our forest area is not more than 15%. Whenever any development program is implemented, there is a possibility of adverse impact on the environment. That is why the Subah is increasingly giving importance to environmental development while implementing any development program. Considering the situation, the Subah encourages people of all communities to plant trees.

The slogan of the Subah is “Poverty eradication through environmental protection and development”. That is why the Subah has been implementing a large-scale afforestation program to eradicate poverty and protect the environment through proper utilization of local resources.
				Work Experience
Subah Social Development Organization has been working since 2001 to implement afforestation programs and reduce poverty in the country. For its special contribution in tree plantation, the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh awarded the Prime Minister’s National Award for Tree Plantation to this organization in 2003, 2012 and 2014. Subah supports the slogan “Plant more trees, save the country” and has undertaken a comprehensive afforestation program to ensure green reforestation. Subah has implemented afforestation program to protect the environment on both sides of the 20-kilometer road of Meherpur-Chuadanga district owned by Meherpur Zilla Parishad. It has taken a lease from Meherpur Zilla Parishad. The afforestation program is implemented with the funding support of Bangladesh NGO Foundation.

The goal of afforestation is to ensure sustainable environment and eliminate poverty from the society. The owners of this forest are poor women, disabled and marginalized people. 4000 mango trees, 28000 forest trees, 2000 medicinal trees have been planted along the above-mentioned road. About 95% of the trees are growing well and are alive. The concerned will get the benefit after maturity.

Subah has also planted 1000 fruit trees, 3000 forest trees and 1000 medicinal trees along the 6 km road and river side owned by Amjupi Union Parishad.
